विधि विषयक अधिकांश शब्द अंग्रेजी अथवा लेटिन भाषा से लिये है। विधि की अधिकतर उक्तियाँ भी अंग्रेजी अथवा लेटिन भाषा के। पर ही आधारित हैं। इन लेटिन एवं च भाषा के शब्दों को कहादतें, सूत्र अथवा सिद्धान्त भी कहा जा सकता है। यहाँ कतिपय महत्वपूर्ण लेटिन के। वास्यों (Lalin Marlims) का उल्लेख किया जा रहा है 1.
